Well!
I just got a "breaking news" email from the NY Times saying that Oprah will be ending her show on September 9, 2011.
That's still awhile off, so things can change but all the rumors have been flying about who would pick up her show now that her sweetheart deal with ABC was ending. Speculation was rampant that CBS wanted her in the worst way.... and of course, she's launching her own cable network soon: The OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network).
Oprah was instrumental in pushing Barack Obama into the media spotlight, particularly when his campaign was stumbling in the primary states of Vermont and Iowa and Hillary seemed to be the odds-on choice of Democrats.
Then, too, hers was the place most women were turning to hear the latest about Sarah Palin's book. Palin is avoiding most larger (read: "liberal") cities, opting to promote herself in small town America with those down-home values and all. For many, Oprah's show was going to be the one place to get the straight scoop with none of the Fox-type filtered crap.
I guess nothing lasts forever, but I thought for sure she would be "on the air" for another good decade.
Q: See what I know about television?
A: Nada.
