I've easily had a dozen-or-more blogs I wanted to write about all kinds of current events but haven't really felt the "push" to get them written. About the only time I feel like writing is late at night ... like it is right now ... and after a beer or two .... like I've had right now ... and then the urge to get fingers to keyboard becomes overwhelming, even though it's WELL past bedtime.
Strange, no?
Is it the hour of the day?
Probably not, although I've always done my best work later in the day (perhaps a hangover effect from all those late-night cram sessions in college).
Is it the beer?
Probably, although one might think that a mind clouded with alcohol couldn't possibly spew out a coherent sentence, let alone a blog worth reading.
One might think wrong.
Many of the blogs I've posted over the past several years that have met with the most positive comments (the "you should write a book about this" type) have been produced thanks to a couple bottles of Moosehead or Alaskan Amber.
I was at the public library tonight when Obama delivered his much-anticipated speech on healthcare, so I didn't hear it "live."
Instead, I went to the NPR website and listened to it online.
I just now finished listening to it and . . . *yawn* . . . it was -- not to put too fine a point on it -- underwhelming.
It was also very deserving of a blog.
Obama has some seriously-declining approval ratings.... and after tonight, I think I know why.
It deserves a blog . . but not one that'll get written by me tonight.
Tonight, I just want to chill, finish my second beer, and contemplate my overwhelming disappointment with my country.
Obama is a disappointment.
Today's Surpreme Court hearing on allowing corporations to spend whatever they want in politics is disappointing.
Congress is disappointing.
My state government is a disappointment.
Actually, there are few things that have lately lived-up to even my lowest expectations.
Today has been a major disappointment.
The past eight years have been, too.
The eight before that... and the four before that... and...
Thank god beer, generally speaking, hasn't been.
Alaskan Amber and Labatt's and Moosehead have continued to live up to my expectations... but they're about all.
At least, so far.
